Frequently Asked Questions
How can homeopathy work if it is so diluted that none of the original substance can be detected?
It is still not wholly understood exactly how homeopathy achieves the results it does. However, it is believed that homeopathy works on a sub-molecular level, and in some research, patterns have been detected in water to which homeopathic remedies have been introduced. These patterns differ from remedy to remedy. Studies in the area of quantum physics appear to support this.
Is homeopathy the same as herbalism?
Homeopathy is not the same as herbalism although the majority of homeopathic remedies come from the plant kingdom. Herbalists use the undiluted herbal tinctures, while homeopathic remedies are diluted to such an extent that there can be no toxicity left.
Can I use homeopathy while I am taking medicine prescribed by my doctor?
Yes you can continue to take your prescription drugs at the same time. Homeopathic remedies will not interfere with your medicine, but your homeopathic remedy may need to be repeated more frequently or taken in a slightly different way. Hopefully you will find that over time you will be able to reduce or stop the conventional treatment (depending on what it is), although this should only be done in consultation with your GP.
Is it safe if I am pregnant or if I’m breastfeeding?
Homeopathy is excellent if you are pregnant as it is so safe. Morning sickness, fatigue, and other problems related to pregnancy respond well to homeopathy. It can also be very helpful for unrelated problems during pregnancy where conventional treatment could be harmful.
As homeopathy is so safe, your baby will not come to harm if you take remedies while you are breastfeeding – indeed they too can benefit from remedies you are taking.
Newborn babies can respond almost instantaneously to the correctly chosen remedy for neonatal problems, such as shock, bruising (in forceps and ventouse deliveries), jaundice etc. Also later with colic, teething, recurring infections, developmental delay – you name it and homeopathy can help. Babies and young children generally respond very quickly to homeopathy.
How long does homeopathic treatment take?
This depends very much on the individual, how long you have had the condition and your general state of health. You can notice changes within minutes, especially in acute illnesses (colds, infections etc.). However if you have suffered from the complaint for a number of years, and/or are on other medication, it may take longer before you notice positive change.
What can you treat with homeopathy?
Because homeopathy treats the person rather that the condition or disease, there is no limit to what homeopathy can treat, however, some people respond more readily to homeopathy than others. The most commonly treated conditions include:
- Allergies (including hay fever)
- Asthma and eczema
- Digestive problems
- Hormonal imbalance (including fibroids, polycystic ovaries etc.)
- Migraines and headaches
- Depression, anxiety and stress
- Insomnia
- Recurring infections
