What is Reiki

Reiki is a form of healing, the origins of which have been lost with the passage of time. However, references to this method of healing have been found in Tibetan texts dating back 2,500 years and in Chinese documents as far back as 3,000 years ago. It was rediscovered by a Japanese monk, Dr. Mikao Usui in the 1800’s. He was searching for an understanding of the healing powers attributed to Jesus and Buddha. After spending many years travelling and studying extensively he was able to put the knowledge he had found into practice. He spent some time fasting and meditating, at the end of which time he was able to understand how to put what he had learnt into practice.

Dr. Usui passionately believed that good health was dependent on physical, emotional and spiritual elements being in a state of balance. Ill health results from a lack of harmony or from blockages which occur when we are experiencing stressful situations, or difficulties in our life.

Reiki as it is practised today has been handed down from Dr. Mikao Usui in a direct line to practitioners today.

The five Reiki principles are a wonderful guide for living for all of us. They are:

  • Just for today I will not worry
  • Just for today I will not anger
  • Today I will count my many blessings
  • Today I will do my work honestly
  • Today I will show love and respect for every living thing
